I was lucky to be born half Scottish and half Greek, and to spend my childhood travelling between the two extremes of Europe - an observer of different cultures.  From the age of four I have wanted to be an artist.  After studying aesthetics and art history as part of my degree, and then enjoying a varied and creative career in publishing,  I've finally returned to my original ambition.

My impulse is always to tell a story, exploring what might grandly be described as the human condition from the basis of my own emotional experiences.  Concerned more with gesture than any detail of identity, my figures and their relationships are caught in a moment of time, evoking a narrative - open to fit in any myth of the viewer's making.  Inspiration comes not only from my own history of relationships; but generally from people-watching: observing conversations, interactions and exchanges - a fascination with body language and how we read ... or misread it.

From small stories a whole world can be read.  I like the idea of striving to make work to fit into a domestic setting which can be lived with, and which can evoke different responses according to the mood of the viewer.

I draw directly on the computer to develop the majority of my work, scan in other material of mine such as collages, pastel drawings, and photographs, then use a painter program to build up the picture.  The image is then printed digitally onto fabric which I stitch and/or embellish, usually by hand, but sometimes also by machine.  Some pieces are framed in clear acrylic boxes as below; the larger forms hang unframed as quilts.
